Shillong, Mar 9 (UNI) A militant leader of the A'chik National Liberation Front Army (ANLFA) and his associate were today lynched by an irate mob of villagers in East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

Police said ANLFA leader Nobin K.Marak alias Mangkram, along with his aide, tried to extort money from the people at Cheram village.

''The villagers were fed up with the militants and beat them to death,'' police said.

The ANLFA 'commander in-chief' was in the wanted list of the Meghalaya police and Army.

''The Army was on the manhunt for the militant after he snatched an AK-47 rifle from an Army official near Tapa Darengchi village in East Garo Hills last year,'' police added.
