MERC directs MSEDCL to return consumer metre cost

Kolhapur, Mar 9 (UNI) Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has directed the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) to return the amount with interest that was collected from electricity consumers September 8, 2006 onwards under the head of metre cost charges.

Maharashtra State Electricity Consumers Sanghatana (MSECS) secretary Pratap Hogade today said that the MERC has directed MSEDCL to return the amount in three equal installments through consumers electricity bills.

The MERC directives have come in the wake of MSECS petition challenging MSEDCL that pressurised consumers in various places to install electricity metre on their cost.

This decision by MERC will benefit around 3.22 lakh consumers in the State to the tune of Rs 41 crore approximately, he added.
