12000 hazelnut, pecanut plants distributed in Kupwara

Srinagar, Mar 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir horticulture department has decided to bring 30,000 kanals of land under orchards in the frontier district of Kupwara where about 12000 saplings of different latest varieties were distributed among the farmers free of cost.

An official spokesman said 30,000 kanals of land are being brought under orchards in the district besides improved variety plants and technical assistance is also provided to the farmers.

He said about 12000 saplings of latest variety Hazelnut and Pecanut worth Rs 1.20 lakh have been distributed free of cost among farmers and orchardists in district by the Horticulture department.

Kavay plants worth Rs 40,000 were also distributed free of cost.

He said 3000 apple plants were provided on subsidised rates to the orchardists and farmers.
