Sena wants complete loan waiver for farmers

Nashik, Mar 8 (UNI) Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray today reiterated his party's demand for a ''complete loan waiver for farmers''.

The loan waiver announced by the government is for loans taken upto March 31, 2007 and does not include loans availed in the new season, Mr Thackeray said while addressing reporters here after completing a two-day tour of the district.

The Sena demands that there should be complete loan waiver, Mr Thackeray said while adding that it is now the responsibility of the state government to announce waiver of the remaining loans in the forthcoming state budget.

As part of his two-day tour of the district, Mr Thackeray visited Malegaon and other parts.

Condemning the various political parties for trying to gain credit for the loan waiver announced in the Union Budget, Mr Thackeray said this is ''disgusting''. There is a clamour for taking the credit but there is no one to wipe the tears of the farmers, he said.

Mr Thackeray descibed the loan waiver as ''little and late''.

''I do not understand farming but I can understand the feelings of the farmers,'' he said.
