Returning Officer of Zunheboto removed

Kohima, Mar 7 (UNI) Returning Officer Daniel Longchar, who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto district, has been removed by Nagaland Government yesterday, official sources said here today.

Sources said Chief of the Bamboo Mission of Nagaland Norman Putsure has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of Zunheboto with effect from yesterday.

As the RO of Zunheboto, Mr Longchar failed to conduct elections in 14 polling stations spread over four Assembly constituencies of the district on March 5.

The polling officials could not reach the polling stations due to the transport problem.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken serious note of the failure and the state government initiated an inquiry against Mr Longchar, sources added.
