Pak EC announces results; PPP on top
Islamabad, Mar 7 (UNI) Pakistan's Election Commission today announced the complete results of the February 18 general elections.
Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of slain former premier Benazir Bhutto has emerged as the single largest party with 120 seats.
The election process culminated after announcement on reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in National Assembly.
The PPP is followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 90 seats and Pakistan Muslim League (PML), backed by President Pervez Musharraf, with 51 seats, the APP reported.
Twenty five seats were won by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), 13 by Awami National Party (ANP), 6 by Muttahida Majlas-e-Aml (MMA) and 8 by other parties. Independent candidates took a total of 18 seats.
The EC has so far finalised the result on 331 seats out of 342.
Contest ended in a tie on one seat reserved for women, with litigation on seven seats. Election had been terminated on two seats and postponed on one.
