MP govt insensitive to women: Cong
Bhopal, Mar 7 (UNI) On the eve of International Women's Day, the Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress accused the state's Bharatiya Janata Party government of being insensitive to women and demanded that implementation of central schemes be ensured for the fairer sex's empowerment.
''The regime's announcements about women's empowerment are hollow and no women's policy was drafted over the past four years.
Atrocities against women are spiralling and the government has admitted that women were targeted in more than 12,000 incidents over the past four years,'' Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress President Shobha Ojha told reporters here.
Alleging heavy corruption in the Woman and Child Development Department, she added that anganwadi workers were appointed in exchange for money.
''The regime is saffronising women by using the nomenclature 'Durga Sainik' for police constables. The announcement regarding setting up women's desks in police stations is only on paper,'' Ms Ojha alleged.
The state's 2008-09 Budget did not include any scheme for women's uplift.
