Man commit suicide, woman made an attempt in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 7 (UNI) A 26-year-old youth commited suicide, while a woman made an unsuccessful bid to end her life in the Kashmir valley, official sources said.

They said Javid Ahmad Bhat hanged himself in a house at Lal Bazar where he was working. However, before the house owner could save him, Bhat, a resident of Kokernag in south Kashmir, died.

In another incident, 40-year-old woman, Tahira Begum in an attempt to end her life consumed poisonous substance in her house at Sangri, Baramulla.

She was immediately rushed to hospital where doctors declared her condition as critical.

The trend of committing suicide, particularly among the woman, had not stopped even after a fatwa was issued by the muslim ulmas against taking such an extreme step.

They said it was an unislamic act and against the teachings of prophet Mohammad.

On March 2, a woman Razia Bano commited suicide in her house at Uri in north Kashmir.
