Indo-US Nuclear deal will not dent sovereignty: Moily
Bangalore, Mar 7 (UNI) Brushing aside Left parties apprehension that the nuclear deal was 'being pushed at the cost of country's sovereignty,' Congress spokesperson M Veerappa Moily today hoped that the deal will see the light of the day soon.
Speaking to newspersons after delivering a special address at the CII Karnataka Annual Members Day-2008 here, he said the negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the deal, signed two and half years ago, would come through.
Mr Moily, however, declined to react over the deadline issued by the Left parties, which had demanded a meeting over the draft agreement. The Government would fix a date either on March 15 or later to discuss it, he added.
Stating that signing Nuclear deal with United States was in the interest of the country and would result in opening of doors of about 42 Nuclear Supply Group(NSG) countries for India to trade.
The Congress leader charged the critics, who claimed that by signing Nuclear deal, the country's sovereignty would be surrendered to the United States and said it would be vice versa if India had backed out from grabbing the opportunity to strike a deal with United States.
Mr Moily took exception to apprehensions by Left parties over the deal and observed that what China could not achieve, India did it.
He hoped the Government would convince the Left parties in this regard and said ''there seems to be no problem in reaching the goal which is not too far''.
