DGP turns down demand for Central forces in Kerala

Kannur, Mar 7 (UNI) Kerala Director General of Police Raman Srivasthava today turned down the demand for deployment of Central forces in the trouble-torn areas of this district.

After visiting the violence-hit areas, where six people were hacked to death by political opponents, he said all the killings were pre-planned political attacks and it could not be termed as breakdown of law and order situation.

Political parties should come forward to end the violence with the help of police force, he said, adding it could not be stopped in a day by using force.

Terming as baseless, the allegation that police force in the area were inactive, he said stringent measures were taken against the criminals without taking into account their party affiliation.

A special control room was opened in Thalassery to end the politicl violence and divide the area into four sectors under DSPs.

Police took several RSS/BJP and CPI(M) workers into preventive custody and a strike was called by CPM in Panur area from 1400 hrs to 1800 hrs to protest against the killing of K Aneesh of Puthur, CITU Building Workers Union Secretary. Also a hartal like situation was prevailing in Chittariparamba, Moozhikara and Thalassery areas.

The bodies of three people, who were killed yesterday and this morning, were cremated in the evening.
