7 children killed in UP road mishap

Hardoi, Mar 7 (UNI) Seven children were mowed down by an unidentified vehicle in Kotwali dehat area of Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident was reported from Atwa Asigaon, where the children were run over by an unidentified vehicle on the Hardoi-Shahjahanpur highway late last night.

While four children died on the spot, three others succumbed during the course of treatment.

The injured were battling for life at the hospital.

Five deceased had been identified as Ramhetu (13), Monu (12), Vipin (12), Ajay (15) and Sonu (14.) According to ASP Surendra Verma, the children were returning home after attending a 'bhandra' on Mahashivratri, when they fell prey to the speedly vehicle.

Meanwhile, irked over of the incident, a mob blocked the Lucknow-Shahjahanpur highway today, leading to a massive traffic snarl for five hours.

The mob could only be pacified after senior officials reached the spot and assured compensation to the family of the deceased.
