Williams sisters dream shuttered in doubles
Bangalore, Mar 6 (UNI) William sisters dream of making it to finals in the Doubles were shuttered as Serena and Venus went down to third seed China pair Shuai Peng and Tiantian proved their seeding in the USD 600,000 WTA Tier II Bangalore open here.
In the match played late night the multiple grand slam winners could not withstand the force applied by the China pair and went down 7-5, 2-6, 9-11 despite taking the decider to super tie-breaker.
During 86 minute battle the sisters were seen making many unforeseen errors and Sarena, who had easily beaten Tzipora Obziler of Israel in the Singles earlier in the day, could not maintain her tempo and most of her returns were earning point to the opponents.
However, the China pair showed their superb court understanding and taking full advantage of Williams sisters weakness in return and erratic shots saw to it that they enter the last eight stage in the tournament.
After winning the first set (7-5) the Sisters took time to relax which costed them dearly of losing the second set (6-2). However, by the time they realised and took the decider to the tie breaker it was too late as well settled China pair broke their services many a time.
In the singles, fourth seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland sailed to Quarterfinals by defeating Aiko Nakamura of Japan 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-2.
In the battle that lasted for more than two hours, Nakamura made the Patty, ranked 12 in the WTA to sweat it out before going down.
The teen aged Patty, who despite taking the first set to tie-breaker, failed to hold and lost the set (6-7 (4). But she immediately regained her power and went on to win the second 6-4, and the third 6-2 to enter the last sixteen stage.
