Tribal women forms social awareness group

Bhopal, Mar 6 (UNI) The tribal women of Khushalbardi village in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district have formed an intra village social awareness group 'Balika Panchayat' which is a vehicle of social changes in tribal pockets.

''The sole objective of this Panchayat is to disseminate awareness on village's development and social issues,'' Sarpanch Lila Dugar Singh said today in an official release, adding that it had representatives of village level institutions, including women panchas, sarpanchas, members of self help groups and anganwadi workers.

The concept of Balika Panchayat was derived from the development training programme offered by the Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Project.

''New issues like ensuring job cards under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, dissemination information about minimum wage, promotional institutional delivery are also being taken up,'' the release added.
