Govt ''chocking'' LIC to facilitate private players, alleges Manoj

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) CPI-M member K S Manoj today alleged that in order to promote private sector entrants into insurance business the government was ''choking'' the LIC, leading to uncertainty among the employees of the insurance behemoth.

Raising the matter during zero hour in the Lok Sabha, Mr Manoj expressed serious concern over the way government policies were leading to ''strangulation'' of the public sector major.

Highlighting today's protest rally at Jantar Mantar, Mr Manoj said the destabilising of the LIC was a major concern as it was the largest insurance provider in the country.

Calling for protection of sovereign guarantee for LIC policy holders, the CPI(M) MP said in the name of providing level playing field to private companies, the government was bringing such policies which were detrimental to one of the country's largest public sector enterprises.

======================= RJD MP Vijoy Krishna raised the issue of widespread corruption prevalent in Asia's largest prison-- Tihar Jail in Delhi-- and asked for the removal of its Superintendent, alleging prisoners there were being beaten and women sexually exploited.

Incidently, RJD MP Pappu Yadav is lodged in Tihar Jail.
