Another live bofors shell recovered in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 6 (UNI) A live Bofors shell was recovered at Khandroo in south Kashmir.

Since the devastating fire in the Field Ordnance Depot (FOD) in August last year, people of Khandroo and adjoining villages had found a number of exploded shells.

A police spokesman said a live Bofors shell was recovered at Khandroo. The shell was later handed over to FOD officials.

More than two dozen people, including a senior Army officer and army fire fighters were killed and scores wounded in the incident which occurred on August 11.

About half a dozen civilians were also killed and wounded even after the area was declared safe by the authorities.

Most casualities took place after the villagers try to collect the scraps of exploded shells in these villages. The defence authorities pressed into service about one hundred Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) to defuse the unexploded shells after the incident.
