TN Minister convenes meeting of DMK's alliance partners
Chennai, Mar 5 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi today convened a meeting with the alliance partners of the DMK at the State Secretariat.
The meeting discussed the issue of fixing fees and percentage of seats the state government should demand from engineering colleges for the ensuing academic year.
The Minister heard the views of the leaders and promised to look into it.
The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of constant ''pinpricks'' caused by the key ally PMK, which has been accusing the government of not regulating fees in self-financing engineering colleges.
It may be noted that the Directorate of Technical Education, acting on the instructions of the state government, had raided several engineering colleges last year to ascertain whether they had charged exorbitant fees.
The report of the Justice N V Balasubramanian committee, constituted for fixing fees in private professional colleges, submitted to the government a couple of days ago, also came up for discussions in the meeting.
