Man arrested for impersonation to get passport

Pudukkottai, Mar 5 (UNI) A 34-year-old man was arrested on the charge of attempting to obtain a duplicate passport by submitting the photo copies of the ration card of his neighbour who was also his namesake, here yesterday.

According to police, Sadiq Basha, a physically challenged person, handed over his ration card to his neighbour, whose name was also Sadiq Basha, to get some assistance from government welfare schemes.

The arrested Basha took photo copies of the ration card and applied for a duplicate passport.

The fraudulant act came to light when police went to his house for an inquiry in connection with the issuance of the passport.

Basha was arrested and remanded in judicial custody, police said.
