Gangubai Hangal turns 96
Hubli, Mar 5 (UNI) Legendary Hindustani classical vocalist Gangubai Hangal today turned 96 and her fans celebrated the birthday by inviting physically challenged students for a simple party.
Mahaveer Youth Federation today organised a function in which the children from Vishwakarma School took part. People from all walks of life lined up in front of Dr Hangal's residence in Deshpande Nagar to greet her on the occasion.
Dharwad district administration handed over the keys of her ancestral home, renovated by the department of Kannada and Culture at a cost of Rs 25 lakh on the occasion.
The house has now been converted as Dr Gangubai Hangal Museum.
The legendary Kirana Gharana fame distributed books to poor students on the occasion.
