Congress to highlight UPA's achievements

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Amid indications of an early General Elections, the Congress has decided to go to the people immediately with its achievements in the past four years.

The AICC has convened a meeting of its General Secretaries, PCC Presidents and CLP leaders on March 10 in Delhi to finalise a strategy of taking the UPA government's achievements to the people throughout the country in the months of March and April.

"We will finalise our programme of highlighting our achievements on March 10,"AICC Spokesman Manish Tiwari told mediapersons.

Asked if the constituents of the ruling UPA coalition would also attend the meeting, he said this was purely a programme of the Congress Party.

Asked why the party was in a hurry though the present Lok Sabha had another 14 months to go, Mr Tiwari said the Congress had not made up its mind with regard to elections.

"It was for the Election Commission to decide on elections. The Congress or other political parties cannot decide on the timing of elections." He said rallies, conventions and meetings would be held throughout the country to highlight the achievements of the UPA government.

Mr Tiwari said a farmers' rally would be held in Delhi on March 9 to thank Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the UPA government for the waiver of Rs 60,000 crore agricultural loans.
