Srinagar, Mar 5: A constable of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) committed suicide in the Kashmir Valley early today by shooting himself with his service weapon.

A senior officer of the 137 battalion CRPF said constable Mahaveer Singh Lamba of G-Company posted at Panchayat Bhawan Zakoora on the outskirts of the city shot himself with his service weapon. Mahaveer Singh died before he could be taken to the hospital.

It was not immediately known why the constable took such an extreme step, the officer said, adding the police has taken up the investigation.
The trend of taking this extreme step by the security forces has not shown any decline even after authorities introduced Yoga and Art of Living sessions to help troops to come out from the stress.

More than two dozen security force personnel, including some senior officers, had committed suicide in the Jammu and Kashmir during the past two years. An equal number were killed by their colleagues during the same period.

Officials said family dispute and work stress are some of the reasons for forcing security force personnel to end their lives.
