Security forces on high alert for tomorrow's Assembly polls
Kohima, Mar 4 (UNI) High alert has been sounded in Nagaland and security forces have been maintaining constant vigil in the state in view of the Assembly elections to be held tomorrow.
Official sources said here today security forces and police personnel were deployed at all vulnerable points throughout the state, including in the inter-state and international boundaries, to thwart any untoward incident or entry of unwanted elements into the state to disturb the peaceful election process tomorrow.
The Assam Rifles (AR), which has been deployed for 'environmental security', continued round-the-clock patrolling and frisking in various Motor Vehicle Check Points (MVCP) to stop the movement of armed underground cadres and miscreants.
The AR personnel so far arrested over 25 underground cadres and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition, along with cash, from their possession.
Altogether 150 companies of CRPF and BSF have already arrived in the state and they have been deployed in various parts of the state.
There also are the existing 11 battalions of AR, 18 companies of CRPF, over 10,000 state police personnel, including the Indian Reserve Battalions, 500 Home Guards and 5,800 village guards, all of whom will be deployed for the election-related duties.
Besides the inter-state border with Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, the security forces are also maintaining strict vigil along the international border with Myanmar to avoid any unwanted elements from entering the state before or during the election.
