Islamabad, Mar 4 (UNI) President Pervez Musharraf will invite senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim and not Asif Ali Zardari or other party leaders to form government, the News reported today.
The President would invite Mr Fahim by virtue of him being head of the PPP Parliamentarians, the majority seat-holder in the Parliament.
The party had formed PPPP to contest election in 2002 when it was not allowed to field its candidates.
''None other than Fahim can be invited to form a government under existing rules and regulations as he is the president of PPPP, which is registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan,'' sources said.
Though PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was handling party affairs since the murder of party chairperson Benazir Bhutto, past precedents provide no clue to a direct president's invitation to him.
''The head of the 4Ps would be asked to form a government.'' Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said, adding some sort of legal obligations were required to support the argument of the president's invitation to Mr Fahim.
''Though this is not the subject of the Election Commission, we have examples in 1988 onwards that the president calls the majority party leader to form a government,'' he said.
