Lawyers condemn priests for preventing rendering of hymns
Madurai, Mar 4 (UNI) A group of lawyers, affiliated to Madurai Lawyers Tamil Sangam burnt an effigy of Chidambaram Temple hereditary priests (Dikshidars), while staging a demonstration to condemn the priests for preventing rendering of Tamil hymns 'thevaram' at Sri Natarajan Temple in Chidambaram, in front of the District Court complex, here today.
Led by Sangam Secretary A K Rajan, the lawyers shouted slogans against the Dikshidars and urged the Tamil Nadu Government to remove them from the temple.
They also urged the State Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department to undertake temple administration.
