Fibre glass LPG cylinders soon, govt

New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) The government is planning to introduce LPG cylinders made of fibre glass in the country, which will initially be imported and test marketed in selected cities.

Minister for State Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinshaw Patel, in a written reply to Rajya Sabha, said that the government has conveyed ''in principle'' approval to the oil marketing companies for expanding their product line through introduction of such composite cylinders.

The Minister said IOC, BPCL and HPCL intends to import these cylinders.

OMCs are procuring cylinders from manufacturers who have valid manufacturing licenses from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Chief COntroller of EXplossivs (CCOE).

He said OMCs have reported that necessary approval of CCOE has been obtained for use of composite cylinders for LPG.

Mr Patel also said that OMCs have reported that there is no overall shortage of LPG in the country including Andhra Pradesh.
