CPI strongly opposes UPA's Nuke deal with US
Khagaria, Mar 4 (UNI) CPI general secretary A B Bardhan today asserted that his party was against the Indo-US Nuclear Pact.
Adressing the 20th state-level party convention here, Mr Bardhan said in principle the CPI was opposed to the deal as it would affect the sovereignty of the country.
Commenting on the General Budget, he said the UPA Government at the Centre had passed a ''populist'' budget keeping in view the next Lok Sabha election.
The provisions in the 2008-09 Railway and General Budget were aimed at luring the voters, he asserted.
He maintained that suicide by the farmers in Telangana, Vidharba and other parts of the country were not new trends, but nothing substantial was done last year in this connection.
This time they did it to woo the farmers with an eye on the General election, he iterated.
He also charged the ruling NDA Government in Bihar with only making announcements without doing anything substantial to implement the policies.
The Nitish Kumar Government was misleading the people in the name of land reforms, right to information and BPL list, he alleged and said the Kerela Government pays Rs 135 a day to the labourers, the Bihar Government pays Rs 80-85 per day.
He further charged the State Government with recruiting doctors, engineers and teachers on contract to check unemployment and threatened that if those employed on contract were not regularised, they would go on statewide agitation.
The convention was also addressed by general secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress(AITUC) Gurudas Dasgupta, national secretary Gaya Singh and several other leaders.
