TN doctors to stage demo on March 7
Chennai, Mar 3 (UNI) Medical practitioners in Tamil Nadu will stage a black flag demonstration on March 7, demanding passage of a Government Order (GO) based on the Supreme Court's judgment, giving guidelines with regard to the arrest of doctors.
Indian Medical Association (IMA) State Secretary T N Ravisankar, in a statement here, said as doctors were arrested on ''frivolous'' FIRs, the apex court had passed an order last year, giving guidelines on arrest of doctors.
Since then, medical associations were demanding that the respective state governments pass a GO based on the judgment, but many of the States, including Tamil Nadu, were yet to pass a GO or enact a legislation, he said.
Dr Ravisankar said the Andhra Pradesh government, after a flash strike by doctors, had promulgated an ordinance and the same was being replaced by an Act in the Assembly.
Tamil Nadu, well known for its excellent healthcare professionals and workers, should not lack behind in promoting healthcare because a few miscreants were taking law into their own hands, he added.
He urged the DMK Government to pass a GO or enact a legislation and act immediately to maintain the high standards of healthcare in the state.
