Three arrested from Jharkhand for looting jewellery
Mumbai, Mar 3 (UNI) Days after over Rs 33 lakh worth of jewellery was stolen from a goldsmith's store at Mazgaon here, police today claimed to have arrested three people, hailing from Jharkhand, in this connection and recovered jewellery worth Rs 7.59 lakh from them.
Addressing mediapersons, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Deshbhardar said on February 24, some unidentified persons looted gold ornaments worth Rs 33.91 lakh and Rs 25,000 cash from Raj Jewellers at Mazgaon in South Central Mumbai.
acting on specific information, a police team was sent to Jharkhand. In a joint operation, along with local police, they nabbed the trio -- Sheerali alias Kaliya (37), Abhuhir Sheikh (23) and Shankar Suresh Mandal (25) (all hailing from Jharkhand)--from the railway station.
The team has recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 7.59 lakh from their possession. Three of their associates are still at large, he informed.
The accused were staying at Dana bunder in south Mumbai, Mr Dashbhardar added.
