New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said her government would impart employment-oriented training to the residents of slum and JJ clusters to make them self-sufficient apart from providing them all basic civic amenities.

Speaking at inauguration of a livelihood programme at Savda-Ghevra, under which youth would be imparted employment-oriented training in 46 different trades, Ms Dikshit said the city government has taken a new initiative under 'Sanjha Prayas' to ensure contribution of members of weaker sections of society in various developmental programmes.

The residents of slum and JJ clusters have been interacting and rendering substantial contribution with different government agencies for development of their under-developed colonies under the 'Sanjha Prayas' initiative.

Ms Dikshit said ''a large number of families from the slum and JJ colonies have been relocated in a well-developed rehabilitation colony at Savda-Ghevra. It is imperative to provide them various avenues of earning. Hence, the Delhi Government has decided to impart the training to these people.'' The City-Government has signed an agreement with CIDC, ATDC and Dr Reddy Foundation wherein youth in large number would be imparted training in different 46 trades which are in great demand.

Ms Dikshit said ATDC would impart training in the field of textile under a short-term course ranging from six months to one year. The course is likely to offer cent percent employment opportunities.

Dr Reddy Foundation would conduct a three-month training programme whereas Somdutt Foundation would impart computer training to children through their mobile vans, she added.

Around 2000 youth would be imparted the training in 46 different trades under first phase of the Savda-Ghevra Livelihood programme.

On the occasion, Ms Dikshit also inaugurated a Gender Resource Centre at Savda-Ghevra where 5500 slum and JJ cluster families had already been relocated.

Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, Principal Secretary to CM P K Tripathi, Secretary Social Welfare Jayashree Raghuraman and other senior officers were also present in the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan reiterated commitment of the city-government to provide all possible amenities to the members of the weaker sections.

Easy loans were being sanctioned for self employment projects by the SC/ST/OBC/Handicapped/Minorities Financial Development Corporation, he added.
