Governor instructs universities to set up women's cell
Gandhinagar, Mar 3 (UNI) Expressing deep concern over the incident of Patan gangrape case, Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma has instructed state universities to set up full-fledged Women's Development Cell.
The universities are expected to evolve monitoring mechanism and submit action plan within a month's time.
In a letter to the vice-chancellors of the state universities, the Governor has cautioned that Patan incident, in which a dalit girl was repeatedly raped by her teachers at a primary teachers college, could be just a tip of the iceberg and there could be several cases across the state yet hidden from the public eye.
Mr Sharma expressed anguish over the fact that no university except the Gujarat University has set up a forum to look into individual issues and grievances of women, including sexual harassment.
