Defending Champion Shvedova shown door
Bangalore, Mar 3 (UNI) Defending Champion Yaroslava Shvedova of Russia was shown door by unseeded Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzebikstan, while sixth seed Sybille Bammer of Austria sailed into second round of the USD 600,000 WTA Bangalore Open here today.
In a battle that lasted more than 90 minutes, Shvedova went down to Akgul 3-6, 6-3, 3-6.
Unseeded Shvedova, who trains at the Academy Ceteval in Valencia, Spain, was the winner in the event last year but today she made too many errors. Akgul's barrage of forehands proved too much and Uzbeks three Aces brooked no answer.
An unsettled game resulted in Shvedova loosing the first set (3-6), but made good leeway winning the second set with more disciplined game. But well built Akgul, ranked 95th on WTA list.
came back strongly to win the match.
In the Doubles, top seeded Taipei pair Yung-Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang, proved their seeding by defeating Switzerland pair Emmanuelle Gagliardi and Patty Schnyder 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 to enter quarter finals, while third seed China pair Shuai Peng and Tiantian Sun entered last 16 stage defeating Russian pair Vesna Manasieva and Vera Zvonareva in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
