BJP revives demand for 'U' Code, condemns attack on north Indians
New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) Reviving the demand for a Uniform Civil code throughout the country and scrapping of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP today condemned attacks on north Indians in Maharashtra and Assam saying every citizen has the right to live anywhere in the country.
Talking to newspersons, BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said it was unfortunate that Congress ruled states like Maharashtra and Assam, and the Congress led UPA government was silent on the atrocities. He said these kind of attacks were aimed at dividing the voters for political reasons.
''We have a consistent demand that there should be no restrictions for any citizen to move around and settle down anywhere in the country, including Jammu and Kashmir. We are opposed to the Special status accorded to J&K under Article 370 and demand that it be scrapped so that the whole country has only one constitution,'' he said.
The attacks on people from outside the states in Maharashtra and Assam, was totally unconstitutional. ''If anybody is to be hounded out of the country, they should be Bangladeshis,'' he said.
