BJP flays Cong, CPI(M) for ''misusing'' Sachar report
Kozhikode, Mar 3 (UNI) The BJP in Kerala today flayed both the Opposition Congress and the CPI (M), heading the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the state, for allegedly ''misusing'' the Sachar Panel report to meet their political agenda.
''They are appeasing Muslims by their calculated move to implement the Sachar Committee report on reservation to minorities ahead of the general elections,'' state BJP President P K Krishna Das told reporters here.
Paloli Sub-Committee recommendation on the ways and means to implement the Sachar Panel report was a ''proof'' to CPI (M)'s ''nefarious'' intention, he alleged.
Stating that the religion should not be used to assess backwardness in the country, he called upon both the Centre and the state government to find alternative means to identify such sections of people in the country.
Backwardness was prevalent in every religion, but giving extra benefits to a particular community would lead to further division of the country.
''We are not against upliftment of the downtrodden by the government, but it should be aimed at improving all sections of people, including the Hindus, Muslims, Christians and others,'' he said.
Claiming that the Muslims were not a backward class in Kerala as propagated, he said about 60 per cent remittance from the Gulf nations were for the Muslim families in the state.
Besides, majority of the educational institutions in the state were run by people from that community, he said.
He said the pro-BJP Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha would take out marches and dharnas in Kozhikode, Kochi and Thiruvanthapuram on March 11, 12, 13 respectively in protest against the ''minority appeasement policy'' of the governments.
BJYM Kerala State President K Surendran was also present.
