Media should work without fear but responsibly: Nikam
Panaji, Mar 2 (UNI) Criminal lawyer and Maharashtra Government's special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam has pleaded with the journalists to be ''fearless and frank but not irresponsible'' for the public cause.
Interacting with mediapersons at the Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) office here today, Mr Nikam favoured a good relationship among the judiciary, the media and the public for transparent and efficient functioning of the systems in informing the public.
He however censured the irresponsible trials by the media, which tend to influence the judiciary. This, he said should be shunned, as it was not good for the public, but there should not be any compromise in exposing the truth per se.
Mr Nikam also called for various changes in the legal procedures so that the accused in criminal cases are tried faster and the innocent protected.
