Yanam region to have Eye Bank, Blood Bank by April

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 1 (UNI) An Eye Bank and Blood Bank will be opened in the Yanam region of Puducherry, adjoining East Godavari district, in April, Puducherry Tourism Minister Malladi Krishnarao has said.

The Minister, who visited the Badam Balakrishna Eye Bank here last evening, said ''it is really commendable that the eye bank has collected 90 corneas within a span of one-and-a half years of its existence. We will be able to eradicate corneal blindness, if every one pledged their eyes.'' Eye Bank Chairman Badam Balakrishna, welcoming the Minister, said setting up of more eye banks would create awareness among the people on eye donation.
