Vigilance Squad to check corruption in cooperative sector
Kannur, Mar 1 (UNI) A Vigilance Squad has been formed under the DIG of Police to enquire into charges and prevent corruption in the cooperative sector.
Inaugurating the state-level deposit mobilisation scheme here today, Kerala Co-operation and Devaswom Minister G Sudhakaran said the squad would be formally inaugurated on March 13 in Thiruvananthapuram.
An auditor-general post would be created in the cooperative sector and the government was considering to amend the rules in the sector to check corruption.
Stringent action was taken against corrupted officials regardless of their party affiliation.
As much as 16,000 crore was received as deposit in this sector within 20 months and Rs 4,854 crore agricultural loans were given away to farmers under the present government.
Government was expecting a 50 crore deposit in 2011 in the sector, he added.
