State BJP opposes move to delay polls

Bangalore, Mar 1: the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka will fight both politically and legally any move to postpone elections to the Karnataka Assembly due before May 28, state party President Sadananda Gowda today said.

Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Gowda claimed Congress leaders, who were afraid of facing elections, had started targetting the Central Election Commission (CEC), which was keen to fulfill its Constitutional obligation. Informing that the party will launch a state-wide agitation gainst any move to postpone the elections, Mr Gowda appealed to Karnataka Governor and the Union Government ''not to succumb to the pressure of the state Congress leaders'' on the issue.

The Congress leaders, by seeking postponement of elections, were only showing disrespect to the principles of democratic norms and installation of popular government elected by the people.
