SC fixes March 3 for CAT official's plea against alleged torture
New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court has decided to proceed against an Inspector General of Police, Jharkhand and eight other police personnel, who allegedly intimidated and physically assaulted B V Rao, member judicial Central Administration Tribunal(CAT), Rachi.
A bench, comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran have decided to act suo motto against Nirmala Choudhary IG police under whose direction and in whose presence eight police personnel in police uniform assaulted Mr Rao on February 27, 2008.
The apex court, taking note of the incident involving humiliation and torture of the judicial officer, has fixed the matter for hearing on March 3.
The Chief Justice had received a letter by post, which is being treated as a writ petition.
