Dalits should have separate electorate: Speaker Bihar Vidhan Sabha
New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) A separate electorate for dalits was demanded in order to safeguard and strengthen the rights of the dalits, this theory was propounded years back by late Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, said the Speaker of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha (Assembly), Uday Narayan Chaudhary, here today.
Delivering the valedictory address at a conference, Mr Chaudhary said a seperate electorate is essential because the dalits representative who are elected by majority voters, who are generally not dalits, are interested in safeguarding their own interests rather than protecting dalit interests.
The conference was organised under the banner of '' Dalit Adhikar Manch'' here. The participants from almost all States and Union Territories were present.
Mr Chaudhary stressed the need to establish inter-marriage relationship among different castes of the dalits. He said it is very essential because inspite of many MPs, Ministers, Chief Justices, IAS, IPS and other senior dignitaries from dalits community, caste difference's among dalits still exists. This obstacle has to be removed first by the dalits among themselves by promoting such marriages.
