CBSE exams begin today

New Delhi, Mar 1 : Over 13 lakh students, including 18,000 from foreign countries, are set to appear for the Board (CBSE) examinations for both Classes 10 and 12, that begin today.

There will be 2624 centres for Class X and 2394 centres for Class XII students.

The Class 12 examinations start off with the Chemistry paper, while Class 10 begins with Information Technology (IT), an optional paper.

There are 7,65,095 candidates appearing for the Class X exam, while 5,48,815 students have registered for the Class XII exam. This shows an eight per cent increase over last year.

About 2500 physically challenged students will also appear in the exams, including 373 visually challenged students in Class X and 214 such candidates in Class XII.

In Delhi region alone, 2,19,796 students have registered for the Class X exam and ,60,414 students for the Class XII exam.

While there would be no multiple-choice question this year, ten per cent marks are allocated to very short answers in which students would have write one sentence or less to make their point.

The 15-minute cool off time, which was introduced last year to help students read and understand the questions, will be continued, Board sources said.
