CBI court sends Punjab police officers in judicial custody

Patiala, Mar 1 (UNI) The CBI court today sent the two Punjab police officers, arrested in connection with the sensational Moga sex scandal, in judicial custody till March 14.

Special Judge H S Madan sent the two officers -- Davinder Singh Garcha, an IPS officer currently posted as SP, Security wing at the state headquarters in Chandigarh and Paramdeep Singh Sandhu, posted as SP, HQ, Ropar -- for 14 days judicial remand.

The prosecution counsel told the court that CBI did not want further custody of both the officers.

The CBI arrested the two police officials from their houses in Chandigarh on February 25, after their names surfaced during the investigation into the Moga sex scandal.

They were sent into the police remand on February 26 for two days and yesterday their remand was further extended for one day.

The scandal got unearthed in April last year following the arrests of two women under the Immoral Trafficking Act.

The racket involved several prominent people including politicians, businessmen and journalists who were allegedly engaged in ''extortion'' after trapping unsuspecting people.
