Auto drivers stage road-roko
Puducherry, Mar 1 (UNI) Tension prevailed on the Nehru street here as the autorickshaw drivers, affiliated to the AITUC, resorted to a road-roko to press their demands.
It was alleged that a police constable had assaulted an autorickshaw driver Pallavan when he attmpted to remove a barricade on the beach road to ride his vehicle last night, police said.
Demanding action against the police constable, about 100 auto drivers assembled in front of the traffic police station on the Nehru street and staged a demonstration.
Later, Superintendent of Police (North) Vijayakumar held talks with the agitators and assured action against the constable, following which they dispersed, police added.
