Three arrested for tonsuring a villager

Kendrapada, Feb 29 (UNI) Mahakalapada police today arrested three people from Bijaynagar village for their involvement in assaulting and tonsuring a fellow villager.

All the three arrested were produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate court at Kendrapara and later sent to jail custody after rejection of their bail applications.

Police said one Kangali Jena was dragged out from his house yesterday on the direction of the local ruling party sarpanch following an altercation over a land demarcation.

The accused assaulted him and later tonsured his head.

The arrested trio, supporters of the local Sarpanch, were identified as Nutan Tarai, Krushna Nayak and Khageswar Nayak.

The sarpanch, the prime accused in the case, was yet to be arrested.

Police had started a manhunt to nab him and others involved in the case.

The victim, a resident of Bijayanagar under Mahakalapada police station, had filed a petition before the Chief Minister as well as the State Human Rights Commission(SHRC) urging them to intervene and provide justice.
