Sangli limps back to normalcy
Sangli, Maharashtra, Feb 29 (UNI) Trouble-torn Sangli is slowly limping back to normalcy with shops and business establishements reopening after two days of violence over the screening of the film ''Jodha Akbar''.
Adequate police forces have been deployed in various parts of the city.
A number of city-based organisations including the Sangli Nagari Grahak Vyapari Sanghatana, Shetakari Sangathana and Maratha Samaj Yuvak Kranti Dal have condemned the violence saying it was pre-planned by vested interests.
Sangli District Superintendent of Police Krishna Prakash told reporters today that public property, including about 100 vehicles -- most of them civic and state transport buses and police vehicles -- were damaged in the violence over the past two days. Two police stations and two police outposts were damaged by the mob.
