Rahul takes Cong delegation to PM on NREGS
New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Mr Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary, today took a delegation of Congress MPs to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submitted a memorandum, making suggestions for better implementation of the government's flagship programme for rural employment.
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) had ''very good results'' in some states and ''poor results'' in others, Mr Gandhi told reporters after a 20-minute meeting with the Prime Minister at Parliament House.
The other members of the delegation were Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, Mr Jitin Prasad, Mr Milind Deora, Mr Sandeep Dikshit, Ms Tajaswini Ramesh and Mr Deepender Hooda.
Mr Gandhi said the delegation made ''seven, eight'' recommendations for effective implementation of NREGS.
Asked whether the delegation met the Prime Minister also to ''take credit'' for the financial package for farmers which was expected in the Budget, he said, ''We are not trying to take credit for anything unfortunately.'' ''I do not think it is fair to criticise the implementation of the programme, stating that funds are being misused,'' he said.
Relying to a question, he said he would go to Orissa on March 6 to launch his all India tour as part of his efforts to reinvogarate the party apparatus.
