President Patil visits Mumbai, accorded warm welcome
Mumbai, Feb 29 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil was accorded a warm welcome as she arrived here today.
Ms Patil, who is in the city to attend a public function for the first time as President of the country, was given a guard of customary honour at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport this afternoon.
Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna and Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh were prominent among those who were present at the Airport to receive the Head of State.
Later this evening, the President would inaugurate a community FM Radio service at the Mumbai University and also a healthcare centre at the Cowasjee Jehangir Convocation Hall. President Patil is an alumni of the Mumbai University.
The healthcare centre has been built to provide modern health facilities to the students and teaching and non-teaching staff alike at a nominal fee.
The Community Radio aims at providing a mix of both information and entertainment, broadcasting community related programme as well as public lecturers and discussions dealing with the students issue.
The radio station, RADIO MUST (Mumbai University Student's Transmission) would be available on 107.8 GHz and restricted to a three km radius of the campus.
Before returning to New Delhi tonight, the President would grace a high-profile reception at the Mahalaxmi Race Course grounds here this evening for the Chief Minister's eldest son Amit, who tied nuptial knot with television actress Aditi Ghorpade, here yesterday.
