Nepal EC extends nomination date for Madhesi parties
Kathmandu, Feb 29 (UNI) The Nepalese Election Commission has fixed new dates for filing of nomination papers for April 10 Constituent Assembly (CA) election for the Madhesi parties.
The Madhesi parties have withdrawn their agitation after signing an 8-point deal with the government yesterday.
The Commission has decided to allot March 2 for filing of closed list for proportional representation based election and March 6 for filing nomination papers for direct election.
The Madhesi parties launching strikes and agitation for over two weeks were demanding the postponement of election. However, they agreed to participate in the election afer a deal with the agreement.
The EC made the decision following the request by the government to allow the remaining parties to contest election.
The EC has also halted other election programmes till March 6 to allow the new nominations to proceed first.
Earlier, 39 parties had filed closed list for proportional election and 33 parties had filed candidacies for direct election.
