Indebted farmer commits suicide

Sangli, Feb 29 (UNI) An indebted farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the roof of house at Nandre village in the jurisdiction of Sangli rural police station.

The farmer, identified as Kuber Sukumar Thote (35), committed suicide last night, police said today.

Kuber had taken loans of Rs two lakh from a bank and local co-operative credit societies for agriculture purpose. However, he suffered huge losses for the Past three years. His failure to return the loan amount frustrated him, prompting him to take the extreme step, police added.
