Higher allocation for Police force
New Delhi, Feb 29 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today announced a substantially higher allocation towards police force and its system at Rs 21715.25 crores this year against the revised total outlay of Rs 17674 crore of previous year.
Presenting the Budget in the Lok Sabha, Mr Chidambaram said the highest allocation of Rs 19220.90 crores was provided towards education, training and research of the police force, criminal investigation, inter-state police wireless scheme, special police, modernisation of the force and reimbursement to states for deployment of battalions.
Public works bagged the second highest amount of Rs 580.30 crores which would be utilised towards the construction of buildings for police, central police organisations and Delhi Police.
Rs 484.23 crores is being provided towards Indo-Bangladesh Border work of which Rs 407.24 crores will be spent for erection of barbed wire fencing.
Some of the major initiatives that would be undertaken from this fund includes relief and rehabilitation of repatriates from Sri Lanka and relief to Kashmiri migrants, border migrants and widows and orphans.
