Children leap on Leap Year Day

Bhopal, Feb.29 : Children at a Kindergarten school in Bhopal celebrated the leap year today along with their teachers at a gala function.

Their school walls were decorated with colourful posters reading: "Leap Year Day" and "One more day".

A cake was cut and kids enjoyed dancing on the tunes of popular Bollywood songs with friends and teachers to celebrate the day. The tiny-tots came today wearing colourful dresses.

"Today is leap year day. We didn't know about it earlier. Our teacher told us. We are enjoying and having a lot of fun today," said Jahanvi, one student at Pretty Petals School.

Some of the kids who had their birthday today were asked to cut the cake.

"We learnt that the leap year comes ones in four years. We danced and had a lot of fun," said Arnav, another student.

The special function was organized by the school authorities to teach student about the joy of Leap Year Day that falls on Feb.29 every four years.

"Today, we are celebrating the leap year day. This is the first leap year day for these kids. They didn't know about the leap year. They are enjoying the party. We have told them about the leap year in a play way method why an extra day comes. In addition to it, they have got a chance to enjoy," said Shashi Kevani, the Director of the Pretty Petals School in Bhopal.

Leap years are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the earth's revolutions around the sun. The Gregorian calendar has a 400-year cycle until it repeats the same weekdays for every year.

The Gregorian calendar has 97 leap years during those 400 years. By Ram Chand Sahu
