Bardhan describes Union Budget as election budget
Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu Feb 29 (UNI) Communist Party of India(CPI) General Secretary A B Bardhan today described the Union Budget as an election budget.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Bardhan, who was here in connection with the party district conference said though the announcement of Rs 60,000 crore loan waiver for farmers was a step in the right direction, the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government should have implemented it two years ago during their four-year tenure.
The CPI leader said the Left parties regretted that the announcement of loan waiver did not address the problems of the farming community and had offered only temporary relief.
Mr Bardhan said the Government should have ensured economic price for the agricultural products, which would have immensely benefitted the farmers.
He said though the Left parties suggested several measures for long-term solution, the Government, however, had chosen not to fully meet their demands, as in the case of the imposition of long-term capital gains tax.
